Toon Target To Get New Contract

|

Earlier this week, news broke that Newcastle had approached Everton with an enquiry for their young winger, Anthony Gordon, who had a fantastic breakthrough season with the Toffees last season.

The approach, believed to be sounding out the possibility of a £35m move, was quickly rebuffed by those in power at Goodison Park. Now it seems that they will likely be offering Anthony Gordon a new contract to keep him at the club. This is according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

Tottenham were also interested in the young Evertonian having already prised Richarlison away from the club. That deal is one that eased the financial burden on Everton which has left them in a stronger position to keep hold of their top players.

Who Would You Prefer?

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Anthony Gordon

Gordon scored four goals in 40 games for an extremely poor Everton side last term and Frank Lampard has identified him as a key player going forward and will do everything in his power to keep him at the club.

Newcastle continue to work on a deal for Moussa Diaby who is the priority signing in Gordon’s position with confidence increasing that a deal can be reached. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jesse Lingard are also still in the frame, so missing out on Gordon won’t come as too much of a blow to Eddie Howe as long as he can land one of those players.
