Six Players Transfer Listed But It May Not Be Enough

|

As we discussed yesterday, Eddie Howe has asked several players to train with the Under 23′s and will likely not be on the plane to Austria next week.

Dwight Gayle, Ciaran Clark and Jeff Hendrick were joined by Matty Longstaff in the Under 23’s training camp, and all four have found themselves on the transfer list at Newcastle along with Federico Fernandez and Karl Darlow.

We have already seen Isaac Hayden depart on loan to Norwich and is likely to stay there unless something goes drastically wrong. However, like Clark and Hendrick, Hayden was not a part of the 25-man squad after the January registration period, so Hayden hasn’t freed up a squad place, nor will the departures of Clark, Hendrick or Matty Longstaff, all of whom were left out of the squad or were out on loan.

Where Will Newcastle Finish This Season?

Top 7 European Places

8-13 Mid Table

14-17 Safety

18-20 Doomed

That means, as things stand, we have two players over the squad limit with new signings Nick Pope and Sven Botman adding more bodies – Obviously, Matt Targett was already in on loan so keeps his squad place.

With Newcastle still looking to bring more players in, efforts to move players on need to be doubled as a bloated squad with players collecting large wages for not playing isn’t going to help the club when it comes to FFP, and definitely isn’t the best way to run any business. Nobody wants to pay for nothing.
