Pope Arrives In Toon

|

Newcastle have announced that goalkeeper, Nick Pope has put pen to paper on a 4-year deal at St James Park following a £10m switch from relegated Burnley.

Following Matt Target, Pope is now the Magpies’ second signing this summer taking their spending to around £22m while other deals continue to be worked on in the background.

Nick Pope, 30, has a wealth of Premier League experience and is also capped at International Level,  and is currently the third choice in Southgate’s setup behind Aaron Ramsdale and some guy called Jordan.

Before being relegated, Burnley had smacked a £25m price tag on their 6’6″ stopper, however, since falling out of the Premier League they’ve had to lower their asking price which is when Newcastle swooped.

Who Is First Choice Keeper?

Martin Dubravka

It’s still unclear whether he’s been brought in as the number one choice, or if he’s there to push for Dubravka’s spot. Both keepers bost similar stats, so either way we have a reliable set of hands between the sticks.

Speaking to Club Media, Pope said “Now I’m here, I can’t wait to get started. The deal has taken a couple of weeks to come to fruition but it got over the line really quickly, and I’m delighted to be here and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into it.”
