As Newcastle continue to butt heads with Bayer Leverkusen over the valuation of French winger Moussa Diaby, they have lined up a couple of back-ups a little closer to home.
Callum Hudson-Odoi of Chelsea is one such player according to The Guardian. The England international has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea despite his obvious talent. As well as Hudson-Odoi, Newcastle are looking at Everton’s Anthony Gordon who had an outstanding season for the Toffees last term despite the team’s woeful form.
Who Would You Prefer?

Anthony Gordon
Hudson-Odoi has three England caps to his name but as his game time at Chelsea has decreased so too has his visibility to Gareth Southgate and as such hasn’t featured for the three lions since 2019. With the World Cup coming up, Hudson-Odoi may want to move to a club where he is guaranteed more game time to get himself back in the International reckoning.
Anthony Gordon is a trickier one to gauge having only burst onto the scene last season for his boyhood club, he could be harder to prise away. Although it is likely Everton will still be in a position where they need to sell in order to balance their books as the FFP authorities are breathing down their necks.
The priority has to still be Moussa Diaby, but Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was called “outstanding” last season by Thomas Tuchel, would not be a bad backup plan.
