Head scout, Steve Nickson, has been over in Brazil casting an eye on Santos’ exciting young forward, Angelo Gabriel and is so impressed that he has convinced the club to break their transfer record for a teen to sign him. This is according to Globo Esporte
Newcastle are willing to double their record for a teenager with the current bar still set at £8.5m for Hugo Viana, with the Magpies prepared to offer Santos £17m for Angelo. Although it is believed that Santos would have a higher asking price for the kid dubbed the “new Neymar”.
A deal would have to wait until 2023 regardless, as Angelo doesn’t turn 18 until December which gives Newcastle (and other clubs) to make absolutely sure a deal would be worthwhile.

Nickson watched Angelo in a friendly against Flamengo for whom another Newcastle-linked player was on the pitch – Gabriel Barbosa who bagged the second goal in a 2-1 win.
Whether anything comes of this link, it’s a clear indication of the work that is now being done by the new-look Newcastle under the guidance of Dan Ashworth. Not just looking at players for now, but making sure we have plenty of hot prospects who could fill the gaps if needed. Building for the future is something that Newcastle have neglected to do for far too long and it’s as refreshing as it is exciting to see that we are finally putting in place the foundations for a successful future.
