Lingard Links Loom Large

|

Newcastle have once again been linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder, Jesse Lingard after previously walking away from a deal due to the player’s wage demands.

The Mirror claim Newcastle have officially opened talks with the player about a move after his Manchester United contract has expired leaving him a free agent.

West Ham have already been rebuffed by the player as he (or more likely, his reps) deemed their offer too low, however, they are not giving up yet. Tottenham and Everton are also said to be interested in the England midfielder, although whether that interest remains for Tottenham after signing Richarlison remains to be seen.

Newcastle have to be seen to be in the lead of this race with West Ham already falling short, Tottenham having signed Richarlison and Everton, despite offloading the aforementioned, remain in a precarious financial position and likely won’t have the budget to cover Lingard’s wage demands.

Lingard will be hoping that wherever he ends up he is guaranteed more first-team football after being treated terribly by Manchester United last season. Forced to stay in January when a move to Newcastle was all but agreed, and then not getting the game time he was promised. Not only would Lingard like to put those days behind him, he will also be aiming to get a seat on the plane to Qatar with Gareth Southgate’s England.
