Former Toon Coach Backs Bale For Magpies

|

Former Newcastle United coach, Dean Saunders has backed Gareth Bale to join Newcastle when his contract at Real Madrid expires at the end of the month.

Speaking to TalkSport, Saunders said: “If I could pick a club for him to go to now, I’d say sign for Newcastle,”

“They’ve got a project; they’re going in the right direction – he would slot in.

“The fans right now in Newcastle, because I’ve been there and I worked there – and I realise how much they love the club – right now they could sell 80,000 season tickets.”

Gareth Bale, 32, is the subject of a  lot of speculation in the world of Football with the tricky winger yet to decide where his future lies. It’s no secret that his main goal is to stay sharp enough to help Wales in their first World Cup since 1958.

Cardiff City is the club often named as a destination for Bale with it being his hometown club, however whether he would take such a sizeable wage drop to join them, and if he would feel the Championship would provide enough of a challenge, remains to be seen. Wherever Bale ends up, he is going to see a massive drop in wages given the extortionate amount he was paid at Real Madrid, with some outlets reporting it to be as much as £600,000 p/w.

Bale proved in his loan spell at Tottenham that he still has what it takes to make an impact in the top flight, although it took him a few games to find his feet.
