We’ve left it later than some would have liked, but it seems Newcastle are about to make their first signing of the January window (for the first-team at least – I don’t want to ignore Garang Kuol).
Anthony Gordon arrived at Newcastle’s Benton training ground this morning for his medical ahead of a £45m switch from Everton. If all goes well, Gordon will become our second most expensive signing behind Alexander Isak. (The Chronicle)

I also talk about how the club has a strong possibility of making a second signing in the transfer window #NUFC https://t.co/qjet8MFPIe pic.twitter.com/CwiF1J8Yx3

Gordon has made 16 appearances for The Toffees this season, picking up three goals, but has since found himself out of favour under recently-sacked Frank Lampard which had seemingly put his nose out of joint and made him want a move away from the club. Gordon was also literally run out of Goodison Park by fans who have taken to protesting in and around the ground before, during and after games.
While it’s easy to understand why Gordon wanted a move away, the way in which he went about it leaves a lot to be desired, and I’d imagine that Eddie Howe will have a long talk with him about his actions and his attitude, as we all know how good the harmony is within our squad and we don’t want characters who will upset that balance.
That being said, the fact that Howe has progressed with this transfer suggests that he sees something in Gordon that a lot of fans don’t (myself included at the moment), so while we may have our guard up regarding Gordon, I for one trust Eddie Howe’s judgement and management, and I suspect we will see a different side to Gordon at Newcastle.
