“Concrete Offer” In For Maddison Now Gordon Deal Looks Done

|

It seems Newcastle aren’t content with just bringing in Anthony Gordon in this window, it is now reported by The Express that Newcastle have put in a firm offer to Leicester City for James Maddison.

It had all been very quiet on the Maddison front lately, and fans were wondering if we’d thrown in the towel, or if we were simply waiting until the summer to make our move. Then the Anthony Gordon rumours began to circulate and it was looking like Gordon was the next on the list behind Maddison.

However, it seems that Newcastle want both players to come in and bolster the struggling attack. Maddison has always been the one signing I wanted to see done in this window. I didn’t care if we brought in anyone else or not, but now it looks like we may get him and another attacking midfielder which is absolutely superb.

There’s no mention in the Express article of a fee, but there is a strong belief that an offer has been made. Leicester are likely to put up a fight to keep Maddison, but they’ll also be very aware that his head has seemingly been turned and is unlikely to extend his current contract which expires in under 18 months’ time.

While Anthony Gordon isn’t exactly a popular choice amongst fans, one thing that is undeniable is his devastating pace, and with Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, Joe Willock and Alexander Isak, we could have one of the quickest attacks in the league, supported by the brilliance of Bruno Guimaraes and James Maddison, our goalscoring issues could well be over.

If we manage to complete both of these signings in January, I think we stand an excellent chance of maintaining our top-four position until the end of the season.
