The Late Late Show With Newcastle’s Transfer Dealing

|

Newcastle have left it late to become active in the transfer window having only just managed to broker the deal for Anthony Gordon with four days to go until the window shuts.

Fortunately, they don’t seem content to end it there with talks ongoing with West Ham for young full-back, Harrison Ashby according to The Chronicle, and rumours circulating that we’ve gone back to Leicester with another bid for James Maddison.

Both players have been long-term targets for Newcastle, and if only one comes off in January it’ll likely be the Ashby move as that one seems to be more advanced than the Maddison deal. Although both teams are playing hardball when it comes to negotiations.

In a way, I’m slightly comforted by the fact it has taken us so long to get moving on transfers. It suggests confidence in the current group of players that simply wasn’t there a year ago, it also suggests that these haven’t been rash decisions. The transfers have been thought out and considered for a while before making their move.

I mean, it doesn’t take someone with Eddie Howe’s level of coaching knowledge to see where we are lacking, but it definitely takes someone of that ilk to know what players will fill those voids in the right way. We aren’t just buying for buying’s sake *cough*FOREST*cough*.

It’s going to be an interesting last few days of the window, and I’m going to cling on to that James Maddison hope right up until that window shuts.
