With the addition of some much-needed new blood into the club and high expectations for Eddie Howe’s men to make progress up the Premier League in the upcoming season, many Toon fans are wondering when will we see the Joe Willock of 2 seasons ago.
During the 20-21 season, Newcastle secured Willock on loan and his impact was meteoric. Willock made 14 appearances and scored 8 times in what was an amazing end to that season. Many fans demanded he be signed immediately however he has failed to find anywhere near that form last season and the stats speak for themselves. 29 Appearances, (5 Sub) and scoring 2 goals.
Willock is a box-to-box midfielder who glides effortlessly with the ball at his feet and is undoubtedly a great talent. This is a season he can real step up and make his mark in a team that is being heavily invested in.
Just as Eddie Howe did with fans favourite Joelinton, he needs to put an arm around Willock and get him firing again. Newcastle fans started to see glimpses of Willock’s mazy runs at the back end of last season and hopefully he will pick up next season where he left off. As we all know, this is a massive statement season for the Magpies and competition for places will be torrid which is good news for the fans and should push the players to up their games.
With the news we’ve all been waiting for that BOTMAN is coming its certainly looking like the Geordies will soon be mixing it with the big boys again soon.
