Will Newcastle learn from their mistakes with loan star?

|

Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is currently on loan at Swansea City of the Sky Bet Championship and his performances for the Swans could give Steve Bruce a potential selection headache for next season.

Woodman has achieved the impressive feat of keeping 20 clean sheets in the league which has seen him be awarded with the golden glove award.

United are rarely short of goalkeeping talent and they definitely are not now. Martin Dubrvaka was brilliant in the 4-2 win at the King Power, with his late stop to deny ex-magpie Ayoze Perez from scoring Leicester’s third being a big moment for the magpies. Furthermore, Karl Darlow has shown that he is a more than capable keeper and now they have the keeper with the most clean sheets in the second tier also on the books.

One thing is for sure, Newcastle should look to mistakes made in the past when considering what to do with the young keeper.

Two other players to make their mark on this season’s Championship are Ivan Toney and Adam Armstrong. The former broke the Championship goal scoring record with an incredible 31 and the latter wasn’t too far off, netting an incredible 28 league goals.

Both of these players are examples of stars that United had on their book and then sold on the cheap following impressive loan spells elsewhere. The pair would both surely be worth north of £10M now with Toney even being linked to a big money move to the Premier League with Spurs being a potential destination.

The magpies have a decision to make on their goalkeepers but another loan deal seems a good idea. If the Swans are successful in the playoffs; a loan deal in the Premier League would make great sense and would be the last test to prove that he is the man to succeed Martin Dubravka between the sticks.
