“Not nice reading” – A lot of Newcastle fans are either fed up or appalled by shocking attacking stats that prove Newcastle can’t keep possession or win it back, and they also do not create chances for their forward players.
A thread on Twitter has tried to find the reasons why Newcastle have only scored five goals, and the results are pretty damming.
The Toon, on average, allow for 23 passes in their own half before the opponent is tackled, fouled, or loses the ball.
This suggests that Newcastle are very passive when defending and do not have an active plan to win the ball back quickly.
In terms of creativity, Newcastle have the second-worst Expected Goals of any side over the past six seasons.
This is a pathetic statistic for a manager who claimed his team would play attacking football.
Stats are not everything, but clearly, Newcastle have a problem when it comes to creating chances and then, perhaps more worryingly, winning the ball back.
All signs from the Toon’s season so far point to relegation, and these Newcastle fans are not surprised by these stats.
See the best of the reaction below.
Have looked into Newcastle United's start to the season – and it isn't great reading – compared to other Premier League sides:
• Lowest xG total
• Lowest home xG total
• Lowest away xG total
• Second-lowest xG of any side over the past 6 PL seasons after 9 games1/12 pic.twitter.com/VQN2Myg1Hl

This is what happens when you hire a dinosaur with no tactical knowledge at all #ashleyout #bruceout

The head coach has proved he can’t come up with a game plan, other than defend. He’s proved he has no idea how to play his forwards & no idea on substitutions. He’s out of his depth in today’s premier league.

These Newcastle fans are not shocked at these stats because Steve Bruce is the manager.

Other Toon fans think that this points towards the Championship.
