Trippier Delighted For Young Lions

|

Kieran Trippier has expressed his delight with England’s young guns after the Three Lions’ 6-2 demolition of Iran in their World Cup opener. Trippier, as expected, started at right-back against Iran, and put in a typically assured performance as England ran rampant against their Group B rivals.

Newcastle’s stand-in skipper was also handed the armband late in the game here after Harry Kane’s withdrawal and used his maturity to help his younger teammates stay concentrated in the closing stages of the match.

It was these youngsters that proved to be the difference between the teams, and Trippier was delighted to see the young guns come of age on the World Cup stage.

“Delighted for them, first goals in first game. They’ve all worked so hard they have great experience for such a young age. Just about expressing themselves and enjoying it, that’s the most important thing.

“I’m 32-years-old and enjoying every game if I’m playing or not I will always be ready.”

At 32, Trippier is 14 years the senior of opening goal scorer, Jude Bellingham, and it was the Borussia Dortmund midfielder that he was keen to single out.

“Bellingham is an unbelievable player for such a young age. He is playing at such a high level and he is not afraid. He has got to keep his feet on the ground and keep performing at a high level like I know he will.”

Bukayo Saka(2), Jude Bellingham, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, and Jack Grealish, were all on the scoresheet in the 6-2 win, and although Trippier was happy with the performance and three points, he was disappointed to concede the goals.

“We wanted to come out on the front foot today and attack really well and we went and got the six goals. We are delighted with the win of course but me and the team are frustrated with the two goals we conceded.”
