Bruno Disappointed For Brazilian ‘Brother’

|

Newcastle star, Bruno Guimaraes, is busy preparing for his first World Cup in Qatar, but he also has one of his fellow Brazilian Geordies in the back of his mind. Bruno has been in impeccable form for the Magpies this season and deservedly got the call-up for World Cup 2022 from Brazil manager, Tite.

Bruno’s Newcastle teammate, Joelinton, on the other hand, was not so lucky. Having just as impressive a season as Guimaraes in midfield, Joelinton had been hoping to get a late call-up for Qatar, but ultimately will have to settle for supporting his nation, and his clubmate, from afar.

Despite the striker-turned-midfielder being disappointed at not being selected, he is hopeful of a first cap in the future and is fully behind his country, and his clubmate, in their World Cup tilt.

After Newcastle’s recent win over Aston Villa, Joelinton said:

“I’m happy for Bruno and I hope he continues to play well and help us here at Newcastle. When he goes to the World Cup I hope he can help bring the title to Brazil.

“I still believe and I’m very positive. All I can do is keep up the hard work, give my best and if the chance will come, I will be ready.”

Bruno has formed a strong bond with Joelinton since his move from Lyon in January, and despite being ‘sad’ that he won’t be joined by his teammate in Qatar, he is sure that the big man has a future with the Samba Stars.

“I hoped Joelinton would be in the squad. He’s a great player, playing really well here at Newcastle,” Guimaraes said before Newcastle’s win over Chelsea.

“He’s a player who has helped me a lot since I arrived. We have a great friendship. I see him as my brother.

“I’m sad for him, but he’s still young and he’ll have other opportunities to play in other World Cups. I don’t think it will affect his career – he knows how to handle it.

“Of course, I’m sad for him, but he can think about the next World Cup and continue doing what he’s been doing as he contributes so much here at Newcastle.”
