Toon ‘could potentially’ bring 82-goal star to St James’ Park

|

Newcastle United signing Thorgan Hazard is something Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie could see happening.

The Tyneside club are reportedly interested in buying the Belgian attacker this summer, with Borussia Dortmund said to be open to a sale.

What is the latest news involving Hazard?

According to Bild (via Sport Witness), Newcastle are keen on signing Hazard in a potential £12.9m deal.

The German newspaper has also stated that Dortmund are not against the idea of a departure, so this looks like a transfer that should not be too complicated for the Magpies to complete.

Last season, Hazard made a total of 29 appearances, scoring five goals along the way to take his senior career tally to 82. However, he made just 14 starts in the Bundesliga.

Since joining Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2019, Hazard has made close to 100 appearances for the German side and helped them win the 2020/21 DFB-Pokal.

What has Downie said about Hazard to Newcastle?

While he has not heard anything about the St James’ Park outfit being interested in Hazard, it is a move Downie could imagine happening.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Sky Sports reporter said: “I’ve seen a lot of him. I used to cover the Belgium stuff, and I think he’d be the sort of player that would really improve the team, so that’s one you could see potentially happening. Whether they are interested in Hazard, I have to say I don’t know.”

Former Dortmund boss Marco Rose stated “Toto [Thorgan] is an excellent footballer who has good technique, who can go one-on-one, who has become more proficient defensively. He is a blessing for the coach,” said (via BVB Buzz).

“He’s very versatile. He can play at eight, he can play centre-forward, he can play at ten, he can play as a winger or a wing-back.”
