“There’s A Failed Transfer Newcastle Will Not Be Made To Regret” – Did Ashley Call This One Right

|

Whisper it quietly but some fans may feel that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley’s notoriously tight pocket may have actually secured him a small win if there was any truth to our interest in Nicolai Jorgensen last January.

Back in the January 2018 window, the Guardian were one of a number of outlets to claim that we were circling the Feyenoord striker, but the crux of the deal was that we wouldn’t meet their reported £20million asking price for the now 27-year-old.

The Danish international had a good record at FC Copenhagen, and having joined Feyenoord back in the summer of 2016 he’s found the back of the net 36 times in 75 appearances according to Soccerbase which is pretty decent in the Eredivisie.

Ultimately nothing came of it, but given his performance earlier this week for his country against the Republic of Ireland there were some fans on social media who didn’t think that was a bad thing at all with the benefit of hindsight.

Maybe he would’ve been a hit, he certainly wouldn’t have been the only miss.
