This is a very rare occasion, Steve Bruce has said something in his press conference that the vast majority of Newcastle United fans will agree with.

In his pre match press conference for United’s game against one of the ‘shameless six’ clubs that were set to breakaway from the Premier League and UEFA and join Florentino Perez’s European Super League.

He had this to say on the matter: “I was like everybody else and thankfully the big six have taken a slapping.

“It was pretty obvious to everyone we weren’t going to accept it, which was terrific.”

It was nice to see the whole footballing world come together despite of allegiances and fight a plan that would effectively end football as we know it and if something can unite Toon fans and Steve Bruce it must be a pretty horrendous idea.

The former Manchester United defender touched on his own experiences in the game when dismissing the scheme and also praised the supporters in their efforts in getting rid of the Super League.

“I played in the lower divisions for years before I got my break. I’m all for the pyramid in thus country and I’m all for the way it works.

“The supporters have been heard and rightly so. To bring it down and bring it down so quickly, fair play to the supporters.”

The European Super League project was left in tatters following all six English clubs pulling out from the new league amid backlash from fans, pundits and even players.

Newcastle United may not have been invited to compete amongst the European elite but their stance on the matter was pretty clear as one of the ‘other 14’ that were all against the plan.

The hopeful owners of the club have also made their position known on the Super League and they were not in support of the idea.
