The would be Newcastle United owners would not be in favour of the newly proposed European Super League.

The consortium made up of Amanda Staveley, the Reuben brothers and the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund are still engaged in a deal to try and buy the football club and this new competition could have serious ramifications for the potential of the sale.

Newcastle were seen by the consortium as one of the last uncut gems in the Premier League, a sleeping giant that if awoken could reek havoc amongst Europe’s elite and now with ‘The Super League’ coming in and effectively making Europe’s elite a closed door would put an end to those dreams.

Furthermore, buying a Premier League club if there wasn’t going to be the so called ‘big six’ wouldn’t be anywhere near as lucrative and any kind of broadcasting deals and sponsorship would surely take a nose dive.

The already massive gap would get even bigger and the unlikely dream of ever seeing a side like Newcastle United bridge that gap would be killed off. This is something that not just Newcastle fans who were hopeful of a takeover should fight against, but the whole of football.

The would be owners of the Toon’s thoughts were shown by Mehrdad Ghodoussi (husband of Amanda Staveley) tweeting his thoughts on the matter.

He tweeted that football had become all about money and then later added a message about this crossing the line to his feed with the hashtag Super League Out included.

Whilst it is nice to see that the people who are trying to buy our club are on the same page as us, this is so much bigger than our takeover.

This is about stopping the death of football. A sport loved and enjoyed by so many millions is on the precipice of being ruined forever and as football fans, we must not allow this to happen.
