Is Jose Mourinho a good fit for Newcastle?

Newcastle United are amongst the clubs tipped by the bookmakers to be Jose Mourinho’s next club following the iconic football manager’s sacking from Tottenham Hotspur.

Mourinho was sacked out of the blue on Monday morning, ending his turbulent 17 month spell with Spurs and less than a week before they take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Earlier on in the season it appeared Mourinho had his mojo back, with his Spurs side amongst the favourites to go all the way and win the Premier League but he leaves them in 7th place, 24 points of their cup final opponents.

Popular online bookmaker Sky Bet has Newcastle listen at 14/1 to be his next destination which is quite surprising considering his track record of jobs taken. He does not go to clubs without a bit of cash to splash and without ambition and unfortunately that is not Newcastle United at the moment.

The fact we are mentioned in the betting markets will be purely down to the fact that there is a potential big money takeover still with a chance of happening at some point and I honestly can’t think of many better to be a part of an exciting new era than Jose Mourinho.

First, he is not only not Steve Bruce but the complete polar opposite of Bruce, the man is a winner and a breath of fresh air in comparison to our current head coach.

Ok, his record in the past few years is a bit patchy but there are so many emotional reasons as to why this would get the Toon fans excited.

None more so than his history with and love for the legendary Sir Bobby Robson. The Potuguese manager is on record as saying:

“I always felt beautiful matches at St. James’ Park, but difficult matches.

“I like to go there, I like the feeling of going to Mr Robson’s home. I like that feeling.”

In a separate interview he gave with Sky Sports he also added:

“So through him (Sir Bobby Robson), I become a little magpie and I like the club very much and in spite of never winning in that stadium, I always love to go there and play there in front of these incredible fans.”

The idea of Jose Mourinho regaining his managerial mojo in the process of awakening Newcastle United is one that gives me goosebumps.

Of course, this is hugely dependant on a takeover but it is a nice thought nonetheless.
