Former owner of Newcastle United Football Club Sir John Hall has shared his strong beliefs about why the recently proposed Super League is such a bad idea.

Hall sold his shares in the club to current owner Mike Ashley in 2007 but he is very much still a fan of the game and like the vast majority of us all, is dead against the idea of a Super League.

In an interview he gave with the Chronicle, Hall said

“I’m totally opposed to it. We’ve got to stop it otherwise it will destroy the game.

“I wouldn’t let them play in the Premier League.

“That’s absolutely appalling to say that they want to play in the Super League and continue to play in the top flight – personally I’d tell them to get stuffed.”

Many Toon fans and general football fans will find themselves nodding along to the opinions of the former Toon owner and if there’s anyone qualified to have a say then it is surely Sir John Hall.

He was part of the original Magpie Group that took over the club and appointed Kevin Keegan as manager and saw the club go from a potential first ever relegation to the third tier to fighting for honours domestically and abroad.

Even us who aren’t old enough to have witnessed Keegan’s entertainers first hand, the effect is still profound and it gives you hope that one day United can once more be competing at the other end of the table.

This ludicrous idea devised by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and his American cronies would make that impossible as the footballing elite would be a permanent closed door rendering a lot of football pointless and much more boring.

The great thing about football is that the teams at the top has the ability to change, for example when Mike Ashley’s Newcastle ownership began, we were ahead of Tottenham Hotspur as a club.

Fast forward to now and they’ve sacked a manager for being 7th in the league, have a cup final to look forward too and have arguably the best stadium in world football whereas we are often battling relegation.

It wasn’t too long ago that Shola Ameobi had more Champions League goals than Spurs on his own and that really highlights the ridiculous nature of this money grabbing scheme.
