Newcastle United’s second choice goalkeeper has been linked to move away from St. James’ Park with Watford apparently after the 30-year old shot stopper.

The report comes from the Mirror and it seems that the Hornets have Darlow in mind for someone that could be the man to replace the ageing Ben Foster in the summer.

Darlow has enjoyed a good season for the magpies and many felt that he was unlucky to be replaced by Martin Dubravka in the side and his impressive performances had even brought mentions of an England call up.

Unfortunately for Darlow, he found himself on the bench at exactly the wrong time and was unable to take advantage of Jordan Pickford picking up an injury as West Brom goalie Sam Johnstone was selected ahead of him in Gareth Southgate’s previous England squad.

Watford look set for an immediate return to the Premier League and have a six point gap to 3rd place Swansea going into tonight’s fixtures.

No one can say that Darlow doesn’t deserve a regular spot in a Premier League side after his brilliant form in the early season for Newcastle and this really feels like a deal that has serious benefits for all three parties.

Starting with the would be buyers of the keeper, Watford would be gaining a very competent goalkeeper, Darlow kept four Premier League clean sheets this season and made an average of 3.5 saves per match prior to being replaced by Dubravka.

The player would potentially have a starting spot at a Premier League club and have a great chance to prove himself once and for all. It really felt like he was very close to breaking in the England team this season and a good run of games could see him do exactly that.

And finally, Newcastle United would be able to cash in on their second choice keeper to the apparent tune of £6M and would not have to fork out for a replacement with Freddie Woodman able to come straight in from Swansea City to battle Dubravka for the number 1 spot.
