Simon Jordan And Jim White Bet £1000 On Newcastle’s League Position

|

TalkSport‘s Simon Jordan and Jim White have made a bet on whether Newcastle will break their way into the Premier League’s top six next season.

In a surprise to literally nobody, Jordan is the one laying his money down on Newcastle failing to break into the upper echelons of the Premier League, while his counterpart Jim White has more confidence in Eddie Howe’s charges.

“I think they will make top six,” talkSPORT host White told Jordan and Danny Mills.

“I’ll have £1000 with you, let’s have a bet on it! Let’s go!”, Jordan replied.

White then said: “OK, let’s do it! £1000 says Newcastle will make top six.”

Not that I ever want to be seen to be siding with Simon Jordan, I think poor Jim White might be out of a grand come the end of the season. Most Newcastle fans are very grounded with their expectations and are eyeing a top-half finish, maybe top eight, but to think we will displace one of the league’s “Top Six” in our first full season under the new regime, seems wildly optimistic.

Bear in mind that this bet has been made while the Magpies’ sole addition to the squad is Matt Targett, who was already at the club albeit on loan. If Newcastle recruit well (and stop being messed about by greedy agents and indecisive defenders), the pendulum could swing in White’s favour, and obviously, I hope it does.

Newcastle’s stats in 2022, however, would indicate a top-six finish, ending the season as one of the top-form teams in the league, but whether they could sustain that level over a full season is still a mystery.
