Newcastle are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, a report The Daily Mail has claimed.

The Magpies are still seemingly looking to strengthen their squad, despite the recruitment of striker Callum Wilson, defender Jamal Lewis, goalkeeper Mark Gillespie, and midfield pair Ryan Fraser and Jeff Hendrick this summer, with a new name now being linked with a move to St James’ Park.

According to the latest reports, Newcastle are taking an interest in a move for Rugani, who has seemingly fallen down the pecking with the Italian champions.

It is thought that Juventus will sell Rugani to the highest bidder this summer, and with four year’s remaining on the centre back’s current contract, they are under no pressure to sell if the price is not right for them.

That however, could be problematic for Newcastle, with the Magpies apparently looking at loan moves, having stretched their budget with the signings they have made so far this summer.

As well as Newcastle, West Ham are also said to have taken an interest in a possible move for Rugani, with the Hammers also in need of defensive reinforcements this summer.

This could certainly be a useful signing for Newcastle, if they are able to pull it off.

It does seem as though they are still in the market for a centre back this summer, and they may well need following their performance at Brighton at the weekend.

Rugani’s pedigree and past performances suggest he would be a useful signing for Steve Bruce’s side, although with Juventus seemingly keen to make a decent bit of money for the defender this summer, you have to wonder just how feasible a deal might be for Newcastle, considering the current circumstances.
