Report: Newcastle among clubs aiming to bring 28-y/o back to Premier League

|

Newcastle are one of three Premier League clubs keen on signing Monaco right-back Djibril Sidibe, a report from 90Min has claimed.

Sidibe spent last season on loan with Everton, making 25 Premier League appearances for the Merseysiders, and although they decided not to make Sidibe’s loan permanent, it seems the 28-year-old may not be done in English football’s top-flight just yet.

According to the latest reports, Newcastle, West Ham and Wolves are all interested in signing the right-back, who has been capped 18 times by France.

It is thought that West Ham are currently leading the race to secure the services of Sidibe, although the Magpies and Wolves are not out of contention for his signature just yet.

For their part, Monaco are apparently willing to let Sidibe leave the principality on loan again this season, but only if a permanent move further down the line is included as part of the deal.

As things stand, there are two years remaining on Sidibe’s current contract with Monaco, securing his future with the club until the end of the 2021/22 season.

This could be a useful signing for Newcastle to make, with right-back seemingly an area they are looking to strengthen in during the current transfer window.

While Sidibe did not do enough to earn himself a permanent move to Goodison Park last season, the 28-year-old’s performances for Everton were generally solid, meaning he could be a reliable option for Newcastle should they win this battle.

With West Ham apparently leading the race for Sidibe’s signature, it could be difficult for Newcastle to do that, although it would also feel like something of a show of strength from the Magpies if they were to come from behind in the transfer battle to pull this signing off.
