Newcastle are interested in signing midfielder Wylan Cyprien from OGC Nice, a reports from L’Equipe and Foot Mercato, via Get French Football News have claimed.

Cyprien has scored 23 goals in 109 appearances in all competitions since joining Nice four years ago, but with his contract set to expire at the end of next season, Nice are apparently keen to sell the player now, in order to avoid losing him for nothing this time next year.

According to the latest reports, Nice have already reduced their asking price for Cyprien from €20million to €10million this summer, as they look to do a deal with Bordeaux.

However, if they continue to drop their demands in order to facilitate a move to Bordeaux for the 25-year-old, it is thought that Newcastle could be waiting to pounce, with the Premier League club said to be interested in a possible move for the former French youth international.

As well as the Magpies, another Ligue 1 club – Strasbourg – and Italian outfit Hellas Verona, have also been credited with an interest in Cyprien, as the transfer window approaches its close.

Given Cyprien’s experience of top-flight football, he could be a decent signing for Newcastle, who do still look short on strength in depth despite a busy summer of recruitment.

Indeed, the Frenchman’s attacking capabilities from midfield could make him a serious asset considering the lack of options Bruce currently has upfront.

However, with Nice seemingly keen to negotiate a deal with Boreaux, it seems as Newcastle have some work to do if they are to pull this deal off.
