Newcastle are one of three Premier League clubs interested in signing defender Santiago Arias from La Liga side Atletico Madrid, a report from Colombian outlet Bolavip has claimed.

Arias joined Atletico from Dutch giants PSV in 2018, and has since gone on to make 51 appearances in all competitions for the Madrid outfit, scoring once.

Now it seems as though Arias could be on the move again this summer, with the latest reports claiming that Newcastle among the clubs keen on signing the right-back.

As well as the Magpies, Everton and Wolves are also said to be interested on a move for the Colombia international, who it is said will be playing in the Premier League next season.

As things stand, Arias has three years remaining on his contract with Atletico, but it is thought that the La Liga side would be willing to sell for a fee of around €16million, and it now remains to be seen if any of the interested trio make an offer that match Atletico’s valuation.

Given the circumstances surrounding these links, it does seem as though this could be something of a coup for Newcastle should they pull it off.

Arias past experience and performances do suggest that he could be a solid Premier League player for one of these clubs, and when you look at their options in that position, is does seem as though right-back is an area the Magpies could do with reinforcing.

Add to that the level of interest there appears to be in Arias from the Premier League, and this would also be a significant show of strength from Newcastle, meaning that despite the cost involved, this could be a move well worth considering for Steve Bruce and co.
