Besiktas are close to agreeing a deal to sign Newcastle defender DeAndre Yedlin, a report from Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (18/09, 13:32) has claimed.

It was reported by The Daily Mail earlier this week that the Magpies are willing to let Yedlin leave this summer for a fee of around £5million, and it now seems the American international is close to securing his St James’ Park exit.

According to this latest update, Yedlin is now close to completing a move to Turkey to join up with Besiktas, who finished third in Turkish Super Lig last season.

But contrary to those past claims, it seems as though Newcastle will not be making any money from Yeldin’s departure, with the 27-year-old apparently set to make the move on a free transfer.

That is despite the fact that Yedlin still has a year left on his current with Newcastle, securing his future at St James’ Park until the end of this season.

Having joined Newcastle from Tottenham four years ago, Yedlin has made 116 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies, scoring three goals.

This is a decision that in some senses, feels like a surprising one for Newcastle to make.

While you can perhaps understand their willingness to let Yedlin go given he is seemingly not first-choice at right-back in Steve Bruce’s side anymore, it seems strange for the club to let him go on a free when they do not need to.

Yedlin is still a decent player who should be capable of commanding some sort of fee, and having spent big by their standards this summer, you would have thought they would have wanted to make some of that money back with this particular sale.
