News: Newcastle linked to 22-year-old Championship star

|

A report in the Sun on Sunday has claimed that Newcastle United want to bring Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall to Tyneside either in January or next summer.

The 22-year-old has impressed for Forest this season and is playing a big role in their promotion charge in an attempt to end a 20 year exile from the top-flight.

They are currently second with 22 points, and Worrall has played a significant part in this promotion bid.

The defender is a lifelong Forest fan and is part of a defence that has only conceded nine goals this season.

There were rumours that he would be available on a cut-price deal, but that seems to be incorrect, and if Forest were to be promoted, it would be a surprise if he were to leave his boyhood club.

However, the last time Newcastle signed a young defender from Forest; he became the Toon’s captain within two years – so perhaps Steve Bruce and the scouting network see Worrall as the next Jamaal Lascelles.

Newcastle will be hoping Forest fail in their promotion bid so that they could entice the 22-year-old to Tyneside and bolster what is already a strong defence.
