Champions League chasing Arsenal met an inspired Magpies team for their final home game at St James Park last night and were handed a 2 goal loss for their efforts. The Geordies, still smarting off a 5-0 drubbing at Manchester City the week before turned up with fire in their bellies. From the first minute Arsenal were shown no respect and were chased and harried for every ball, seemingly stunning the team into subdued apathy.
The Gunners and their travelling fans went in to the game needing a win, combined with another potential 3 points at home to Everton on the final day, this would most definitely have secured their return to Champions League football for the first time since the 2016/17 season.
Eddie Howe and his team however had other ideas, they made Arsenal look second best across every part of the pitch. Indeed, many had even wondered had Arsenal turned up!
The Toon were rewarded in 55th minute with a BEN WHITE own goal which was initially thought to have been a Callum Wilson goal. Bruno Guimaraes then secured all 3 points half an hour later in front of an ecstatic GALLOWGATE.
Mikel Arteta’s team were second best throughout the game, and his post match interview left no one in any doubt he was displeased with his teams output in the match, especially as their local rivals Tottenham will reap the rewards of the failure.
