The former chief executive of two Premier League clubs, Peter Kenyon, has spoken out about his failed Newcastle United takeover attempt this week.

Kenyon now advises clubs and prospective owners and commented on a previous bid for the Magpies in a bumper interview with the Telegraph.

The British businessman’s attempts to land the club came to light back in September 2018 – a bid that was a mere £125m upfront with a remaining £175m in instalments.

It evidently didn’t come to fruition and it was a topic that came up in his conversation with chief football writer Sam Wallace, he said:

“We just couldn’t quite get that over the line.”

It’s thought to be the first time that the ex-United man has gone on record about this incident as he once lined up a consortium, which involved Joseph Da Grosa and GACP Sports.

Kenyon, who has also worked at Chelsea and was part of the setup when Jose Mourinho was first appointed, has deep ties to global super-agent Jorge Mendes – a relationship that led to an investigation from the Guardian over breaching FIFA regulations.

Will Newcastle finally be rid of Mike Ashley this summer?

Yes, absolutely!

I can't see it now...

Now several years later, a new takeover saga has developed and it’s one that has arduously dragged on for over four months.

The decision on that has gotten much further than any previous attempt, though, as only the Premier League’s owners and directors test stands in the way of a new era at the northeast giants.

When that outcome will be announced still very much remains to be seen.
