Chronicle Live’s chief football writer Lee Ryder delivered a fresh update over Newcastle United’s Saudi-backed takeover this weekend.

He has regularly been in contact with people involved in the £300m deal and they have claimed that the Magpies’ prospective owners are still rather confident of the takeover going through and that it is still in the hands of the Premier League.

In a recent Q&A with supporters, he said:

“I have spoken to people close to the deal and they maintain – as they always have – that the would-be buyers still believe they can do it. But it’s really a Premier League thing.”

At this point, the whole saga has gotten past being tedious, it has been over four months after all. In fact, it’s more at a stage of seriously worrying about it because the club and the fans deserve so much better. They deserve an answer.

The transfer window opens in under two weeks and the 2019/20 season draws to a close in less than seven days – all whilst the Magpies sit rudderless off the pitch, not knowing who will be in control of the northeast giants going into next term.

Will Newcastle's Saudi takeover happen in July?

Yes, 100%

Yes, 100%

No way!

No way!

And it is the Premier League at fault for taking ever so long with their decision, just why has the owners and directors test taken this long to complete?

Granted, twists like the beIN Sports’ ban in Saudi Arabia haven’t helped matters, but technically their public investment fund isn’t making those decisions in the country and thus can’t be held accountable.

Richard Masters needs to show some urgency otherwise United are sleep-walking into a disaster irrespective of if this takeover happens or not.
