Shelvey Wants To Sacrifice Summer

|

Speaking to Sky Sports, Jonjo Shelvey spoke of his desire to play over the Summer for the England national team.

Shelvey who has been in great form for us in large spells this season has, in my opinion, suffered England ignorance because he plays up in the North East.  Like many players over the years from up here, they have to play out of their skin to even get a mention eventually whilst Southern clubs English players basically get a call up for playing one good pass or striking a flukey goal.

Whilst the clamour among media and pundits alike intensifies, it will be to England’s loss if they don’t include a player who is David Beckham-esque in his passing ability although I don’t think many of us Newcastle fans will be that bothered to see him miss out on the World Cup as it could threaten a future here if injury then occurred or burn out.

Shelvey said:

I booked my holidays probably three to four months ago when I was miles away from a call-up, but I’d lose all that money, just to get a chance to go.

I have been playing very well but I owe a lot to the manager and my team-mates.

Speaking after the win at Leicester last week, manager Rafa Benitez added his bit which was in our local paper, The Chronicle, by declaring that if Shelvey was surrounded by better players with England then he could do even better.
