Newcastle Could Be Offered Defender As Club Push For Quick Profit

|

Newcastle United could be offered one of their transfer targets as Atalanta look for a quick flip. Merih Demiral, who impressed last season on loan from Juventus looks set to make the move permanent after Atalanta activated their option to buy.

Football transfer correspondent, Jacque Talbot revealed that Atalanta will be looking for a quick sale with Newcastle amongst the clubs likely to be offered the Turkish centre-back for a tidy profit.

The buy-out clause is believed to be around £17m, but with Atalanta struggling for cash, they will look to sell on Demiral straight away for a quick profit.

Speaking to NUFC Blog, Talbot said: “I’m told Atalanta have exercised their option to buy for Demiral and now plan to sell him immediately at a higher price.

“I have no doubt in my mind Newcastle will have their name attached to the player.

“Atalanta will be on the phone in no time, although Newcastle won’t be the only club offered the chance to sign him.

“I expect them to demand around £27m, allowing them to make a quick profit of £10m or so.

“With Federico Fernandez and Jamaal Lascelles’ futures in doubt, it could make sense to bring in a young, talented right-sided centre-back who can be a first-team starter, especially when Eddie Howe has been tipped to sign more than one central defender.

“I’ll be expecting developments on this one.“

Even at £27m, 6’4″ Demiral would be a quality addition to the Newcastle back line.
