The Chronicle recently wrote of Yoshinori Muto’s struggles with Eibar after joining them on loan over the course of the summer though, towards the end of the article, note something even more concerning that that.

Indeed, according to their report, the Japanese international was picking up a £54k-per-week salary at St. James’ Park prior to leaving on loan. It’s not clear as to what percentage the Spanish club are paying but, given the fact he’s reportedly not convincing, the Magpies could soon be picking up that bill in full again.

Given some of the struggles Steve Bruce is thought to have in making space on his wage bill, the fact so much money is being wasted on Muto is a worry. Unlike many of the other outcasts at Newcastle, he’s not out of contract in 2021 and is seemingly doing little to put himself in the shop window.

In just 28 games for the Toon Army, the 28-year-old has scored only twice and, at worst, could remain on the wage bill until the summer of 20222. Having failed to shift players such as Henri Saivet, Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons this summer, that must be a realistic worry for top brass on Tyneside.

Sadly, it looks as if the they could be paying another flop big money for a reasonably long time which would surely have an impact on what the club could spend given the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.

What would you do with Miguel Almiron?

During his stint on loan, Muto has played six games without scoring with Eibar just three points clear of the relegation zone.
