Javier Manquillo will not replace the suspended Valentino Lazaro in Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United side for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley, according to the Chronicle.

Lazaro was issued a straight red card in the closing stages of last weekend’s defeat away to Crystal Palace, when the January arrival hauled Wilfried Zaha down whilst the Ivorian was set to break through on goal.

The Inter Milan loanee now must sit out our upcoming home meeting with Burnley, leaving Bruce with decisions to make over who he fields at right-back whilst we strive to end a four league game winless run.

It is not expected that Manquillo will feature, however, as while the Spaniard is back training on grass following a hamstring injury, the club are loath to rush him back into action.

Manquillo last featured for the first-team on New Year’s Day when he became one of five players to sustain issues, joined by Jetro Willems, Jonjo Shelvey, Fabian Schar and DeAndre Yedlin.

The £35,000-per-week right-back’s hamstring issue has kept Manquillo out of our last six Premier League games and four FA Cup ties, and his wait for what would be a tenth start of the term across all competitions is likely to roll on.

Bruce is expected to turn to Yedlin this Saturday instead of Manquillo in the boss’ search for Lazaro’s replacement.

Yedlin has been resigned to a back-up role at St. James’ Park since Lazaro joined on loan, in a deal which features a £20million option to buy the Austria international in the summer.

The boss may also consider turning to Isaac Hayden for the right-back slot against Burnley, having called on the midfielder to feature there against Wolves and Everton whilst Yedlin was sidelined with a broken hand.

Summer signing Emil Krafth is an unlikely option to feature, as the club are not expecting the Swedish defender back in training from an ankle injury until the end of the month.

In other Newcastle United news, the club face paying a record fee to sign a prolific 24-year-old this summer.
