A few Newcastle United fans have been discussing who Steve Bruce will call on at left-back next season, with the role a potential problem position in the making at St. James’ Park.

The boss can currently rely on the services of on-loan Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose and natural midfielder Matt Ritchie, though may not see either as his long-term solution particularly with Rose signed without an option to buy.

United do have an option to purchase Eintracht Frankfurt’s Jetro Willems in the summer, having agreed on a £10million clause with the Bundesliga outfit when we lured the Dutchman to the club last year.

Willems and versatile defender Paul Dummett would both be options for Bruce at left-back next season if the club do take up our option with Frankfurt, though neither can play a role in the tail end of the current campaign having suffered long-term injuries.

Dummett’s season came to an end last month during our FA Cup Third Round Replay win over Oxford United when he suffered a hamstring injury, while Willems ruptured his anterior cruciate ligaments in January’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Chelsea.

Who would you want as our left-back next season?

Willems

Rose

Rose

Ritchie

Ritchie

Dummett

Here are some of the messages shared as fans discussed Bruce’s options for what could be a potential problem position next season…

In other Newcastle United news, the club face paying a record fee to sign a prolific 24-year-old this summer.
