Magpies ‘admire’ Fulham defender

|

Newcastle United have been credited with an interest in signing Fulham’s defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

The report comes from the well respected site The Athletic and it also states that United aren’t the only side with an interest in the defender, with Arsenal also apparently admirers of Abarabioyo.

The young centre back signed for Fulham on deadline day of the last summer transfer window from Manchester City on a cut price deal.

With the Cottagers’ relegation to the Sky Bet Championship confirmed, it seems that he will be seeking an exit as he is one of the few players to come out with any credit in the bank following their immediate return to the second flight.

The deal could be helped along by the fact that the 23-year old has a buyout clause in his contact so we don’t have to rely on the likes of Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley to negotiate any kind of deal.

Standing at six feet and five inches tall, Adarabioyo has the ability to be effective at both ends and despite being part of a relegated side, he has been part of a defensive restructure at the Cottagers that added a bit more stability to their back line, playing in 31 of their Premier League fixtures so far this season.

Newcastle could be potentially dealt a blow in their efforts to sign the young defender as a result of his apparent relationship with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

Arteta has previously worked with Adarabioyo during his time spent working under Pep Guardiola at Man City and this could be a factor in deciding where to play his football next term.

Also, should he opt to move to the Emirates, he is unlikely to suffer another relegation battle whereas United can not rule out that possibility.

Bruce and co will get a chance to check him out when they travel to Craven Cottage on the final day of the season.
