Prem clubs interested in Murphy

|

Leeds United and Burnley are reportedly interested in signing Jacob Murphy from Newcastle United this summer.

The report comes from the Football Insider, who state that the Magpies are keen to sign Murphy up to a longer contract in a bid to ward off any interest from other clubs.

The report states that Murphy has just one year left on his current deal and as such he could be available for as little as £3M.

He was brought in for around £12M, so understandably United are not keen to make a big loss on their investment and they are hardly likely to want to sell that cheaply when he is finally starting to look like a footballer worth anywhere near the fee that was paid to bring him to the North East.

Murphy has often struggled for time on the pitch at Newcastle and as a result of this he has been sent out on loan twice to the Championship; initially with West Bromwich Albion before also spending time at Sheffield Wednesday but recently, the tide has began to turn on his Newcastle career.

The 26-year old has been a vital part of the much improved performances and results from Newcastle of late and Bruce has rewarded him for this by starting him in the last seven games.

Used in the deeper position of right wing back, Murphy’s defensive abilities have been tested. Other than a shaky display in the Arsenal defeat, this is a test he has passed with flying colours and his attacking flair has been a big bonus to the side.

His determination and direct nature of play have been a big asset to the United side and he has more than earned himself a new deal over the past few weeks.

The fact that other Premier League clubs have an interest, should tell United everything they need to know.
