Jamaal Lascelles singles out Newcastle ace for individual praise

|

Our squad isn’t great, but there are a few players within the Newcastle squad that have impressed this season. Of course, our captain Jamaal Lascelles is one such example, and the Englishman has this week singled out another one of his teammates and issued him with some lavish praise.

The player in question is Fabian Schar. Since moving the club, he hasn’t had the smoothest ride, but his talent has always been clear, and it’s evident that he’s going to be a great player for us long-term.

Discussing the defender, as per the Chronicle Live, Lascelles said: “[He was] excellent. It was the first goal; he grabbed the game with two hands and he just kept going – and then his second was him being in the right place [at the right time]”.

He continued: “He [Schar] is a different kind of centre-half. I saw him the other night playing central-midfield [against Blackburn Rovers] and it looked like he had played there all the time. He got the chance to step in and grabbed it. Fair play to him, he did a great job.

Schar only joined in the summer, but it’s looking like he’s finally settling. In particular, alongside Lascelles, he’s been able to find a bit of consistency, and the Swiss 27-year-old has all the makings of a solid defender.

As Lascelles notes, though, he’s also versatile, and so perhaps in the second half of the season he can be a bit of a jack of all trades for Rafael Benitez.

It’s also evident that he’s got a goalscoring touch, too, and that’s one thing we’ve lacked as of late. Here’s hoping that he continues to go from strength to strength.
