Howe Looking To Reunite With Defender

|

Several outlets are linking Newcastle with a move for Manchester City defender, Nathan Aké who has been told he can leave this summer.

TalkSPORT claim Newcaslte are potentially interested in a deal for Aké with the Dutchman having previously worked under Eddie Howe at Bournemouth.

Aké only made 10 Premier League starts for City this season and is deemed surplus to requirements at the Etihad, yet despite his sporadic game time, Pep Guardiola was reluctant to let him go in January when Newcastle came knocking.

With Newcastle looking at Aké it suggests that they aren’t 100% confident on a deal for Sven Botman and are keeping their options open for now. Both Botman and Aké are left sided centre backs, so going for both wouldn’t make a lot of sense, especially with Dan Burn also covering that position.

Botman will likely remain the priority as he will be seen as more of a long-term acquisition at just 22 where as Aké is 27.

Aké is valued at £22m on Tranfermarkt and wouldn’t be likely to cost more than that given his transfer status, which is a good deal for a player who has won two Premier League titles and still has some good years ahead of him.
