Dan Ashworth probably has a head-shaped dent in his office wall at St James’ Park already as he keeps coming up against ridiculous fees for players, however, he and the club remain resolute and will not be bullied into paying more than what they feel a player is worth.
It is a policy you have to admire, although it is one that is starting to frustrate some sections of the fanbase who are starting to get a bit panicky over the lack of attacking players coming in.
The PIF have made some excellent signings since taking over in October last year, but Chris Wood was the only real attacking signing (Bruno was brought in as a defensive midfielder but is just THAT good, he started bagging goals for fun), the quality additions made at the back and in midfield will allow Newcastle to become more adventurous going forward. The likes of Saint-Maximin can be let off the leash a bit.

That’s not to say we aren’t in need of cover, especially in the striker department where we now only have two recognised strikers. But as we’ve said before, they wouldn’t have let Dwight Gayle leave without a replacement in mind.
GiveMeSport have been speaking to Fabrizio Romano about this and asked him if he can see Newcastle bringing in a big-money striker this summer. The transfer guru said: “I think it’s a possibility.
