Newcastle’s “most important signing of the window”, Dan Ashworth has spoken to NUFC TV after his arrival at the club on Monday. You can watch the ten minute interview here.
Picking the bones out of the interview, Ashworth has shone a light on what it is exactly he will be doing at Newcastle and described himself as the “centre of a wheel” and the spokes being all the facets of the club such as the first team, academy, women’s team, medical teams etc, and it falls to Ashworth to ensure that everybody is fully aware of what each department does and to create best working practices across all departments.
Speaking about transfers, it was said that the idea of every department pulling in the right direction might mean that instead of going out to find a player for a particular position, another department can suggest a player already on the books who could fit in and do a job. This has to have been music to the ears of the academy players as it suggests the route to the first team could be more streamlined.
The word of the day is “cohesion” and that’s never really been a word associated with Newcastle, so to finally have someone in place who can get the entire club singing from the same hymn sheet is extremely exciting.
Ashworth was also full of praise for the fans, saying how each time he was at St James’ Park in an opposition capacity he was blown away by the atmosphere and was fully aware of what a special club Newcastle is.
The future is bright indeed.
