Gayle was brought in from Crystal Palace to help Newcastle return to the Premier League at the first time of asking following their relegation in 2016. Doing just that, Gayle bagged 23 goals in the 2016/17 season finishing as the league’s top scorer and ensuring Newcastle returned to the top flight as champions.
The striker only managed to bag six goals in the Premier League the next season and was subsequently loaned out to Championship side, West Brom for the following campaign. His spell there was much more lucrative, scoring 24 goals for the Baggies.
Since returning to Newcastle, Gayle has found game time extremely limited and goals even harder to come by and as such was told by Eddie Howe that he wouldn’t be featuring in his plans for the upcoming season.
The 32-year-old now joins Stoke City who ended last season in 14th place in the Championship.
We are sure Gayle will bag plenty of goals for the Potters next term as he is a proven force in the second tier. We wish him all the luck in the world and thank him for his service to Newcastle United.
