It wasn’t all that long ago that Newcastle were believed to be in talks to sign free agent, Jesse Lingard following his Manchester United exit.
Newcastle were one of several clubs linked with the England midfielder, however, it was Premier League new boys, Nottingham Forest who secured his signature.
I’m not sure what odds you’d have got on this move happening a couple of weeks ago, especially with West Ham seemingly interested in bringing him back to the London Stadium following on from his extremely successful loan spell in the second half of the 2020/21 season.

This is a huge statement signing for Notts Forest, who will face Newcastle on the season’s opening game on 6th August. Forest have been absent from the Premier League since 1999 and want to make sure their return isn’t just a brief foray back to the upper echelons of English football.
Meanwhile, Newcastle’s search for a winger continues with Moussa Diaby opting to stay put for now and a £25m bid for Jack Harrison rebuffed by Leeds. The panic button hasn’t been pressed yet, but fans are starting to become anxious with the lack of fresh attacking options coming into the club.
