There have been many changes at St James’ Park already this season, with Newcastle’s hierarchy waving goodbye to Rafa Benitez in June, having failed to agree to a new contract with the Spaniard.
Ayoze Perez swiftly followed his compatriot out of the exit door and signed a four-year deal with Leicester City, after the Foxes triggered a reported £30million release clause in the 25-year-old’s Magpies contract.
Steve Bruce has now arrived on Tyneside to take up the vacant managerial hot seat at the club he supported in his youth, which former England striker Darren Bent suspects was a sign of the board preparing for life in the Championship in 2020.
But it is not the arrival of the 58-year-old Corbridge-born head coach that has some United supporters reacting on social media, rather it is the changes being made to the exterior of St James’ Park ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Toon fans were quick to note the redesigned players entrance, where a brief message has been added to the steps leading up to the Old Milburn Stand reading “We are ready, we are Newcastle, we are United.”
Probably get slagged by the masses but just walked passed the ground and I have to admit i’m impressed and shocked by the changes to the player entrance. #NUFC pic.twitter.com/z7IzQfrLtM

There have also been changes made to the exterior of the ground from the roadside, where black paint has now been added over the brickwork heading toward the turnstiles.
It looks like SJP is getting a black coat of paint. from r/NUFC
Magpies supporters reacting to the addition of the black paint have been left mostly unimpressed, as evident in these comments…
