‘Is that for his left foot?’ – Some Newcastle fans amazed at reported figure for vital player

Fabian Schar could be the next high profile player to leave the club, according to Tuttosport (via Calciomercato).

They claim AC Milan are seeking out a central defender and have identified the 27-year-old as a target. They suggest Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren may have been their first choice, but he was deemed too expensive.

The article also said the Rossoneri are interested in Manchester United’s Eric Bailly. However, it may be a more difficult transfer to get over the line. His place in the team may come under threat if United sign Harry Maguire, but the player cost them £34.2million, so probably won’t come cheap.

Schar only joined the club last summer but became an integral player in Benitez’s team. He was key at both ends of the pitch, he helped keep seven clean sheets, scored four goals, and provided one assist, in his 24 league appearances.

And having signed from Deportivo La Coruna for £3.6million, he could be the cheaper option for the Serie A side if Newcastle decide to profit from his departure, which has been a trend under Mike Ashley’s ownership.

Newcastle supporters were left feeling angry as it is believed the defender may be allowed to leave St James’ Park for as little as €15million (£13.5million). Some fans took to Twitter to share their opinions on the news he could go for so little…
