While Newcastle struggle for goals, one player who could be seen as a key to unlocking stubborn defences is Everton’s Anthony Gordon.
Newcastle were one of several clubs linked with a move for the young midfielder in the summer, but Everton dug their heels in managed to keep hold of their hot prospect.
However, Everton now find themselves in a position all-too-familiar to Newcastle fans – nestled snugly in the relegation places with a boardroom in complete disarray. It’s not a nice environment for players to be in and you’d imagine Gordon could easily be tempted away from Goodison Park this winter. Even Frank Lampard doesn’t seem confident of keeping him:

Anthony Gordon is the type of player who will divide opinion amongst our fanbase. Hailing from Everton is a bad start for many fans, but his conduct on the pitch can sometimes leave a lot to be desired which raises the question of whether he’s the type of player Eddie Howe would even want in his side.
The reality is, Anthony Gordon is undoubtedly talented, we’ve seen it many times from him, but he’s stuck now playing in a misfiring side which is affecting his performances. Eddie Howe could be the perfect coach for him, to get his confidence back up and to train him to direct his fiery temperament in a positive way. There’s nothing wrong with having that fire if you take it out at the right time in the right way.
Would You Take Anthony Gordon?
Yes
No
Gordon has a habit of winding opposition players and fans up, the kind of player you hate when he’s not your own but love when his wearing your shirt. It’s a transfer I’ve thought a lot about lately as I was planted in the “no thanks” camp for a long time, especially as he can’t even get into THAT Everton side. But the idea of Eddie Howe coaching such raw talent and moulding him into playing the way he wants, that’s an exciting prospect.
Given Everton’s current situation, both in terms of league place and financially, this should be an easy enough deal to do. £35m should be more than enough to test their resolve I reckon.
