Former Magpie, Kieron Dyer was in the Sky Sports studio last night as Crystal Palace hosted Newcastle United and his words at full-time raised some eyebrows to say the least.
Discussing Newcastle’s shrewd transfer strategy Dyer admitted that before coming to Newcastle he’d never heard of Sven Botman and now he could “go on to bigger and better things”. Oh, Kieron, mate. Your stock was already low with the Toon Army after your acrimonious exit from Newcastle and the way you treated Sir Bobby Robson, and now you belittle our achievements, our direction, our pedigree? Mistake.
So Botman can go onto 'bigger and better things' with other clubs with 'history and pedigree' huh Kieron!?
What an absolute spanner Kieron Dyer is!
Are we not making our own history and are we not one of the most exciting projects going!? #NUFC #NUFCFans pic.twitter.com/kXIpk3vJLZ

This tweet was probably the most polite one from Newcastle fans posting that clip.
It is truly baffling how someone who played for our beloved club can say something like that. Yes, we’ve been dormant for a while, but when Kieron Dyer played for us under Sir Bobby, we were up the top end fighting for European football, we were where we belonged. It was only after that did we start to stagnate. Now we’re in a position to go back to those days, we’re in the semi-final of a major cup, we’re third in the league (at time of writing). It’s truly a ridiculous comment.
Of course, there are teams out there who have more pedigree and recent success, but the whole idea of signing the likes of Botman was to build our own squad to compete at that level.
I wouldn’t care, but I was just starting to like him again after his heart-to-heart interview with Brian, the True Geordie, where he seemed genuinely sorry for his behaviour back in the day.
Well, that’s all undone now. Well done, Dyer.
