Many Newcastle fans have been reacting on social media, after the Chronicle shared a report hinting toward Ayoze Perez’s agent testing the waters to secure his client a new club for next season.
The Spaniard’s representative is said to have been putting the feelers out to sides in Italy and his native country to see if there is any interest in his services.
Perez has been linked with a move to the Serie A recently, when reports surfaced indicating that Napoli were a willing contender to test the Magpies’ resolve and challenge unnamed La Liga sides – expected to be Real Betis – for his signature.
If the San Paolo Stadium natives were to make a move, it was thought that Perez’s departure would see the Magpies bank £20million, as he currently looks set to end a second consecutive campaign as United’s top goalscorer.
With his contract not set to expire until 2021, the Magpies are in no urgent need to cash in on the 25-year-old, although he has hinted in the past that he is ready to challenge himself in a European competition.
The Chronicle, however, have hinted that we may offer Perez a more lucrative contract to see the 5 ft 8 midfielder remain on our books, but concede that all contract discussions are currently off the table until Rafa Benitez’s future is resolved.
Their article also generated a fair few responses on social media once it was posted on Twitter…
Let’s be honest all of our players should be looking for other options. Why would any player want to play for a business (we are no longer a football club) that sole objective is to make the most profit in a season. Players want trophies not balance sheets

Why would he want to stay when all nufc fans did not respect him earlier on until he started scoring? And why would he stay at a club with no ambition and a world class manager is going to leave? Nobody could criticise him leaving nufc coz all of u wanted this not long ago?

I’d imagine it’s partly because some fans used him as a scapegoat earlier on this season, shame

As gutted as i would be, the 25 mill reported if re-invested id take it all day and use it to sign rondon. We can get another player for his place

Where does he think he’s gonna go for Champions League like? Olympiacos? Steaua București?

Get £20M+ for him then put Almiron as #10, happy days. Anyone wanting to keep him should cast their mind back! #nufc

I love Perez and would be gutted to see him go but, if he wants to then good riddance.

I’ll happily sell him, shelvey etc, get good money and we could reinvest

Perez has been class second half of the season, but champions league, nah not having that. If we are offered 35 mill snap there hands off, as long as Rafa stays I’m happy! #NUFC

He doesn’t score enough goals for a CL club, one good season, if we get 15m or over I will be happy. Rather keep Rafa

Are we actually going to have any players left?
